Santa Fe, Gallup, and White Sands

Possible bar fight? Maybe a cheater at the poker table? 😛

I grew up hearing about White Sands, NM, so instead of heading west like we originally planned we decided to drive south to see this fascinating monument.  We stayed at the Boot Hill RV Resort in Alamogordo.  If you’ve ever watched Gunsmoke, you’ll get the humor in this.  😉   There isn’t much I can say about White Sands, except that I highly recommend visiting.  The amount of sand is incredible…enjoy the pics! The furbabies loved it, too!!!!!

White Sands, NM
Hi!
Surrounded by furbabies!!!!

Santa Fe is a very cool city with unusual architecture.  Every building was made of stucco, which seems to be a big thing in the desert…and California.  It isn’t really my style but I appreciate the uniqueness of it all.  The main reason we stopped in Santa Fe was to see the Loretto Chapel.  This chapel is famous for a specific staircase.  If you’ve never heard of it, here’s some info…  http://www.lorettochapel.com/staircase.html

I honestly like to believe in miracles, and I believe this could be one.  It really is beautiful and I’m very happy we made the trip.

Gallup is a whole other story.  We finally headed west but didn’t quite know where we wanted to stop.  We don’t like to drive too far in one day, and there aren’t many cities between Santa Fe and Phoenix.  I figured we’d stop in Gallup, which is only about 3 hours west of Santa Fe.  Well, we only stayed for the weekend and I’m so glad we didn’t stay longer.  It was super windy and around 30º, which is way to freakin’ COLD for us!!!  So much for leaving the cold weather behind.  HA!  The coolest thing about the RV park in Gallup is that it is on the famous Route 66.  I suppose I can scratch that off my bucket list.  😛 (Oh, and the owner of the RV park is from Fort Worth…that was kinda neat, too)

And of course we just couldn’t pass this up…

The prize for the town with the coolest name goes to…Truth or Consequences. 😉

Now we’re skipping right over AZ and heading to Nevada.  See y’all in Vegas!!!!
