Thanksgiving!

Ahh, Thanksgiving.  I love this holiday.  It brings family and friends together for an entire day of good food and fun (unless your little California cousin visits for a week, then the fun lasts just a little bit longer). 🙂  So, a lot happened the week of this glorious turkey filled day.  The first thing that happened was a kitten named Witten. My mom found him on one of her walks with her friend.  They decided to take a different path that day when my mom heard a cry from the bushes of a courthouse.  When they walked over to see what made that sound, my mom noticed a wee kitten who probably would have frozen to death if he hadn’t been found.  Later that day she text me and asked what she should do and I told her he needs to see the vet.  He needed to be warmed up as soon as possible.  He had a little bit of ringworm, but that was an easy fix.  He was warmed up, fed, and dewormed so we headed back to his new home. He weighed only 1 pound and our vet said he looked to be around 5-6 weeks old.  I don’t know if he was dumped at the courthouse by a terrible person or if he was the product of a feral cat. Either way my mom had a new furbaby named Witten Kitten.  He was a sweet little guy and loved being on my mom’s shoulder snuggled in her hair.  Well, the first day went pretty well.  He seemed to be feeling OK but it kinda went downhill from there.  He just kept fighting the cold and whatever parasites had gotten to him before my mom found him.  He had become very lethargic and he wouldn’t eat or drink for almost 2 days.  We took him back to the vet and we learned he was extremely dehydrated. We did everything we could to get fluids in the little guy, but it just wasn’t enough.  The day before Thanksgiving was a very sad day.  My mom said that 30 mins before we arrived at her house that day little Witten was running around the living room and seemed fine, then all of a sudden he stopped and took one final breath.  My mom just figured he was lethargic again and didn’t realize he had passed away until after she left to take my Meema to the doctor for a procedure she had scheduled for that day.  Thankfully Shawn and Will were there to take care of little Witten before my mom came home.  One thing we do know is that little Witten Kitten finally learned what true love is and his last days were some of the best any furbaby could have.  RIP little Witten.

So, now for Thanksgiving…even though the day before was very sad for everyone, our turkey day went well. My mom kept herself busy with the preparing of the wonderful dinner. She’s very good at being “mom”. I’ve always called her the original Betty Crocker.  She is so domestic she puts those 50s tv moms to shame.  😉  Anyway, our little Cali cousin Tracey was in town for a Thanksgiving visit, and to see her daughter Halle, of course.  If y’all remember, Halle is our Cali cousin who is attending UNT. She is also our “adopted daughter”. (no, we didn’t actually adopt her…she’s my mini-me and is just the right age to be our kiddo…and she’s a great kid!). Will and I are her “Texas parents”!!

We’re obviously staying close to home for the holidays, but we plan on hitting the road after Christmas.  We’re probably heading west, so we’ll keep y’all posted!

Overall it was a fantastic Thanksgiving, even though the week had quite a rough start.

Please enjoy our Thanksgiving pics!
