Next stop…Galveston!!!

20161025_182324We decided we definitely wanted to stay in Galveston a little longer so we did, but had to reserve a spot at another location on the island. There was a motorcycle rally going on the next weekend so everything seemed to be booked, and it wasn’t an easy task, but we found a spot on the opposite end of the island at another resort, but only for another 4 nights.  We were happy with that so we moved on over to that resort and I’m so glad we did!

Jamaica Beach RV Resort is much larger than Sandpiper, and has more amenities.  The only difference is that this newer resort only had beach access and wasn’t ON the beach like the other resort, but we took what we could get.  Not a whole lot happened during our stay but I did swim every day, which is so awesome since it was the end of October/beginning of November and I was swimming in an outdoor non-heated pool…see??? —>20161101_141805 20161030_161110 and it wasn’t too cold! Will says it was, but I thought it was great! I finally did get him to swim with me on our last day. 🙂 There was a ginormous hot tub at our second Galveston destination.  The entire Jamaican RV resort had a very interesting pirate theme…this was above the huge hot tub.  20161101_153451

Hardheads Icehouse & Grill, Port Bolivar, TX

My aunt and uncle, who live in Kemah, TX (about 25 mins from Galveston), visited us one afternoon our first week there and that was nice since we don’t see them often. They suggested that we take a ferry ride over to Port Bolivar to see a very old light house…so we did.  And this would happen to us…apparently there was a non-working ferry so everything was delayed.  We waited over an hour to board a ferry that would take 20 minutes to get to the other island. The Point Bolivar Lighthouse is very cool, and over 150 years old.  You can’t go in it anymore but it was nice to see.  🙂 When we finally got there, we thought it would be a good idea to eat…and boy, am I glad we did!  We stopped at a place called Hardheads Icehouse & Grill. It was actually the only restaurant open that afternoon (the island is tiny). Three words for this place…BEST.NACHOS.EVER!!!  I ordered the nachos with their signature queso and marinated grilled chicken.  Seriously, I haven’t had nachos that good…ever! I honestly don’t even remember what Will ate.  We waiting for about an hour for the ferry to take us back to Galveston.  We thought it would be about a 3 hour tour (The Gilligan’s Island theme is stuck now, right? lol) and it took more like 5.5 hours. Needless to say the dogs were pretty hungry when we got back to the RV…and were all doing the potty dance!

So, We thought we’d eat out on Halloween to avoid trick-or-treaters. (I know…we’re terrible)  Believe it or not, kids will trick-or-treat in RV resorts/parks.  We had heard of a nice seafood restaurant called Gaido’s so we thought we’d check it out. It’s a good thing it wasn’t too busy because Will and I go in wearing t- shirts and jeans.  It was a nice, white tablcloth and candles type of place.  haha  I honestly don’t think anyone cared but we did feel a bit under dressed.  I’m sure most of y’all are thinking it’s strange that we would eat seafood since I don’t like it, but Will does and I ate some really great grilled chicken.  img_1785-4 img_1783-2

We also spent a day at the NASA Space Center and it was incredible!  I have so much respect for the men and women astronauts, and anyone working in science.  The research they found, and continue to find, is fascinating!  I’ve always loved that stuff but can’t wrap my head around most of it. 😉
