Aliens, Aliens everywhere!!!

Yes, we FINALLY made it out of Texas!  We’re in a little town you might have heard of…in the news, maybe a movie or tv show.  You guessed it! We’re in Roswell, NM.  This place not only has aliens but it also holds a lot of history for my family.  My little mother was born in Roswell. Wait, THAT sure explains a lot, am I right?  😉  There isn’t much to do in this town, either.  Wow, I’m sensing a pattern here.  We really need to travel to more exciting destinations.  However, we’ve had a good time.  I’ve been enjoying the places we’ve seen, especially since they’re connected to me.  It sure made me feel closer to my family.  We drove by what used to be my great grandparents’ home. From what I hear, my Gram had one of the prettiest lawns in the neighborhood (if not the prettiest).  The gazebo my Papa built is still there but the yard isn’t quite the same as it was.  Ok, so my Gram and Papa moved to Roswell in 1947.  The aliens landed in 1947…coincidence?  My mom was born 7 years after the landing.  That must be their incubation period.  Hmm… 😉

As we drove around, we saw my Meema’s high school and where she worked when she was 18.  Both places are not what they used to be.  The high school is now an admin building and the movie theater where she worked is now the UFO Museum.

Of course, we just HAD to go in there.  This town has taken the alien thing to a whole new level.

We also saw the courthouse where my Meema worked as a secretary.  My mom and uncles would play on the courthouse lawn. It has been super cool seeing where my mom and uncles played as children and to know where they lived. Not only is that history, but it’s my family, which makes it even more special, don’t ya think?

Bottomless Lakes State Park

We also took a little trip to Bottomless Lakes State Park.  I hadn’t been there since I was a kid and it hasn’t changed much.  Not that I really remember, but I’m positive it hasn’t changed much in the last 40 years.  The lakes aren’t really bottomless, but they are so deep because they’re basically large sink holes.  Fun, right?  I know a long time ago they couldn’t find the bottom (which is obviously where they got their name) but later determined it to be about 17-90 ft, which is pretty deep for a lake of that size…or even a sink hole!

***Shout out to my Meema!!!!  I want to thank you for moving the family to Fort Worth.  If you hadn’t I might have been born in Roswell.  So, THANK YOU!  😉

Side note to my mother: Sorry mom, we looked but couldn’t find your pod.  They must be hiding it at Area 51 for more research.  😛

Now, for the pics…seriously, they’re owning this alien thing…
